What Is A Cake Smash And Bath Session?

Is your baby turning one? Let's celebrate with a "Cake Smash And Bath" session. These sessions are very popular and lots of fun!

Tub Time First

First we do some pictures in the mini tub. Most children are interested in the cake and some kids get pretty messy so I like to do the bath pics. at the beginning. We don't use water or get the child's hair wet, so they still have cute dry hair for the cake pictures. Sometimes we blow bubbles, other times I can Photoshop some bubbles into the pictures if you want.

Cake Comes Next

After tub time, the next pictures we take are of your child standing next to the cake. Of course we want some with the cake looking pretty! Then we encourage the child to put their finger in the cake and try the frosting. Finally we let the big one year old go for as much of the cake as they want while I snap a ton of pictures. It's so fun to see your child's reaction to the cake. Will they just want a taste or two, or will they really dig in and make a delightful mess?

Big Mess, No Problem

If you don't want a lot of frosting on your child's special birthday outfit, borrow a fancy dress or slacks, shirt, vest, and bowtie from my client closet. Then leave all the laundry for me to wash. Most frosting does wash out just fine though.

What do I bring?

Your child will be in a diaper for the tub scene, so you will just need to bring a cake and an outfit for the cake smash.

What Size Cake Should I Bring?

My cake stands vary in size but will all accommodate up to a 10 inch cake. Feel free to bring a smaller one if you wish. I recommend no smaller than a 2 layer 6 inch cake. The cake should match the backdrop/theme you choose. If you have a hard time deciding I'm happy to send you pics. of cake ideas. It looks best for the pictures if it is made by a professional.

Any Cake Flavors/Colors To Avoid?

Actually yes, please no chocolate or red velvet cake or red or brown frosting because we don't want it to look like poop or blood on your child's fingers. Also, fondant is best to avoid because it is too hard for the child to dig in to. Frosting works much better.

What does Karnes Photography Provide?

I provide a variety of cake toppers and cake stands, as well as numbers that spell out "one". I also provide the backdrops and props for a variety of looks and themes. Do you have a special idea? Let's hear it!

Are These Sessions Only For One Year Olds?

Generally they are but if you have a small 2 year old then they could probably still fit in the mini tub. If not, we can still do the cake smash with a birthday backdrop, along with an additional backdrop of your choice.
